Job Summary
The Principal Field Applications Engineer will serve as a senior technical interface for leading cloud service providers, server OEMs, and networking customers across Asia.
This role is responsible for understanding customer system requirements, recommending suitable connectivity solutions, and providing hands-on design-in, bring-up, validation, and debugging support.
The successful candidate must combine deep technical expertise in high-speed interfaces and server systems with strong customer-facing communication, independent execution, and commercial awareness.
This is not a general technical support role. It is a highly strategic, hands-on position that directly influences customer design wins, system architecture, and long-term product adoption.
Responsibilities
- Support cloud service providers, server OEMs, and networking customers during solution definition, design-in, system bring-up, and validation.
- Understand customer system requirements and propose appropriate semiconductor and connectivity solutions.
- Provide hands-on debugging support for PCIe, CXL, Ethernet, SerDes, and related high-speed connectivity issues.
- Support silicon and system bring-up within server, storage, networking, and rack-scale AI platforms.
- Analyze customer issues at board, firmware, protocol, and system levels.
- Work closely with internal engineering teams to resolve technical issues and drive corrective actions.
- Translate customer feedback and architecture requirements into actionable inputs for product and technology roadmaps.
- Conduct technical presentations, design reviews, demonstrations, and customer training.
- Support system validation automation and link optimization using Python.
- Travel frequently to customer sites across Asia and occasionally North America.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or above in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline; a Master’s degree is preferred.
- 5+ years of experience supporting cloud service providers, server OEMs, networking customers, or data center infrastructure companies.
- Strong hands-on experience with complex SoC or silicon design-in for server, storage, or networking applications.
- Deep understanding of high-speed protocols such as PCIe and Ethernet.
- Experience with silicon bring-up, system bring-up, validation, and customer debugging.
- Strong knowledge of server and data center systems, including servers, JBOD / JBOG platforms, switches, routers, and related infrastructure.
- Experience using protocol analyzers, traffic generators, oscilloscopes, and high-speed lab equipment.
- Intermediate Python capability for test automation, system validation, or link optimization.
- Ability to debug embedded firmware, SerDes behavior, MCU-level functions, drivers, or BIOS-related issues.
- Fluent Mandarin and English communication skills.
- Strong ownership, customer orientation, and ability to work independently.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of high-speed physical-layer architecture, signaling standards, and signal integrity.
- Experience with 12G NRZ or above; exposure to 25G NRZ or 56G PAM4 is preferred.
- Experience with PCIe switches, retimers, connectivity ICs, or related semiconductor products.
- Familiarity with CXL, Ethernet, NVLink, or emerging AI interconnect technologies.
- Experience in high-speed board design, link tuning, compliance testing, or signal integrity debugging.
- Experience debugging embedded software, firmware, drivers, or BIOS using PCIe-based platforms.
- Prior experience supporting hyperscalers or Tier-1 server and networking OEMs.
