Company Overview
Our client is a fast-growing US semiconductor company focused on high-speed connectivity solutions for AI infrastructure and data centers.
Its core technologies include PCIe, CXL, Ethernet, NVLink, and UALink, supporting next-generation AI servers, GPU clusters, storage systems, and networking platforms.
The company works closely with leading hyperscalers, server OEMs/ODMs, and semiconductor ecosystem partners to improve bandwidth, scalability, and overall system performance for advanced AI infrastructure.
Job Summary
The Principal Product Application Engineer will serve as a key technical interface between the product organization and customer engineering teams, supporting Taiwan-based ODMs in the design-in and deployment of PCIe/CXL semiconductor products.
This role covers the full technical engagement cycle, including design-in support, silicon bring-up, system debug, validation, and production readiness.
The position is highly hands-on and goes beyond traditional FAE account support. It combines deep product expertise, PCIe/CXL knowledge, system-level debugging, and technical issue ownership.
Responsibilities
- Support ODM customers in the design-in and integration of PCIe/CXL semiconductor products.
- Provide technical guidance on system architecture, hardware integration, and high-speed interface design.
- Lead silicon bring-up, system bring-up, and complex customer issue debugging.
- Analyze PCIe Physical Layer, LTSSM, Link Training, and protocol-related issues.
- Use protocol analyzers/exercisers, high-speed oscilloscopes, BERTs, and other lab equipment for validation and debug.
- Take technical ownership of customer issue triage, root-cause analysis, and resolution.
- Coordinate internal IC design, firmware, validation, FAE, and sales teams to drive issue closure.
- Support PCIe compliance testing, interoperability validation, and troubleshooting.
- Investigate complex issues spanning silicon, firmware, PCB design, and system environment.
- Develop application notes, debug guides, best practices, and other technical collateral.
- Translate customer feedback into actionable product and process improvements.
- Support global customers with onsite system bring-up, technical reviews, and other engineering activities as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- 10+ years of experience with SoC, ASIC, high-speed interfaces, or complex semiconductor product design-in/application engineering.
- Strong working knowledge of PCIe architecture and protocols.
- Hands-on experience with PCIe Gen4 at minimum; PCIe Gen5 and/or CXL experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of PCIe LTSSM, Physical Layer behavior, Link Training, and debug methodology.
- Experience with silicon bring-up, board bring-up, or system bring-up.
- Proven ability to independently own and drive complex customer technical issues.
- Hands-on experience with protocol analyzers/exercisers, high-speed oscilloscopes, or BERTs.
- Strong technical writing skills, with the ability to produce clear application notes and customer-facing documentation.
- Excellent cross-functional communication and customer-facing skills.
- Willingness to travel globally as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with PCIe Switch, Retimer, CXL, or Ethernet Switch products.
- Experience with PCIe compliance testing and interoperability debugging.
- Familiarity with SerDes, signal integrity, equalization, and lane margining.
- Firmware development or debugging experience in C.
- Python or other scripting experience.
- Ability to debug issues across firmware, drivers, hardware, and silicon.
- Understanding of data center systems such as servers, JBOG/JBOD, network switches, routers, and interconnects.
- Experience supporting major server ODM/OEM customers.
- Experience with AI server, GPU platforms, or high-speed interconnect architectures.
