Company Overview
Our client is a fast-growing US technology company developing connected hardware and cloud-based solutions for residential and commercial applications.
The Taiwan hardware team develops products including video doorbells, cameras, sensors, and smart control devices, working closely with global engineering teams and manufacturing partners across Asia to bring products from concept through mass production.
Job Summary
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will independently own the mechanical development of connected consumer electronics products from concept through mass production.
This is a highly hands-on role focused on execution. You will personally drive 3D CAD design, prototyping, tolerance analysis, DFM, tooling, validation, factory builds, and issue resolution, while collaborating closely with Industrial Design, EE, RF, Optics, Acoustics, Quality, and manufacturing partners.
The ideal candidate has strong consumer electronics experience and is comfortable solving real product and factory issues rather than focusing only on mechanical modeling.
Responsibilities
- Own mechanical design of consumer electronics products from concept through EVT, DVT, PVT, and mass production.
- Translate Industrial Design concepts into robust, manufacturable mechanical architectures.
- Create and maintain detailed 3D part and assembly models using Creo or equivalent CAD tools.
- Develop mockups and functional prototypes to evaluate concepts, fit, function, and system integration.
- Integrate camera modules, optics, Wi-Fi / Bluetooth antennas, IR components, light guides, speakers, microphones, PCBAs, batteries, and thermal solutions into compact enclosures.
- Design products for outdoor, sealed, and weather-resistant applications.
- Perform tolerance stack-up analysis and apply GD&T to critical mechanical interfaces.
- Design components for injection molding, over-molding, LSR, double-shot molding, die casting, CNC machining, sheet metal, die-cutting, and stamping.
- Work directly with tooling vendors and ODM partners to resolve DFM, DFA, and DFX issues.
- Produce manufacturing-ready 2D drawings including dimensions, tolerances, materials, finishes, and cosmetic requirements.
- Prepare BOMs, RFQ packages, engineering documentation, risk assessments, and design review materials.
- Plan and execute DOE and engineering analysis to resolve issues identified during EVT / DVT / PVT.
- Troubleshoot sealing, gasket compression, air-tightness, thermal, structural, cosmetic, and assembly issues.
- Support tooling bring-up, first article review, prototype builds, and production ramp.
- Travel to manufacturing sites across Asia to support engineering builds and issue resolution.
- Collaborate with Industrial Design, Optics, Acoustics, EE, RF, QE, and supplier-quality teams throughout product development.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or above in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of hands-on mechanical design experience in consumer electronics.
- Demonstrated ownership of complete products from concept through mass production.
- Strong daily 3D CAD capability; Creo is strongly preferred.
- Strong experience managing complex assemblies and mechanical design revisions.
- Hands-on knowledge of injection molding, over-molding, LSR, double-shot molding, die casting, CNC, sheet metal, die-cut, and stamping processes.
- Strong experience with tolerance stack-up analysis, GD&T, DFM, DFA, and DFX.
- Experience producing manufacturing-ready 2D drawings and BOMs.
- Experience working directly with tooling suppliers, ODMs, or contract manufacturers.
- Hands-on experience supporting EVT / DVT / PVT builds.
- Strong mechanical debugging, root-cause analysis, and problem-solving capability.
- Professional working proficiency in both English and Mandarin Chinese.
- Willingness to travel to manufacturing sites in Asia when required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience developing cameras, video doorbells, smart-home products, or other compact connected devices.
- Experience designing outdoor or sealed consumer products.
- Familiarity with IP-rated enclosures, gasket design, sealing, waterproofing, condensation, and environmental protection.
- Experience with IK impact requirements or other mechanical robustness standards.
- Experience with passive thermal design for sealed electronic devices.
- Familiarity with camera optics, lens alignment, IR illumination, and light pipes.
- Experience integrating speakers, microphones, acoustic chambers, and acoustic sealing.
- Understanding of antenna keep-out zones and RF-related mechanical constraints.
- Experience running DOE for design and manufacturing issue resolution.
- Experience working within fast-paced consumer electronics development cycles.
