The Taiwan hardware team is responsible for bringing products such as video doorbells, cameras, sensors, and smart control devices from concept through mass production, working closely with global R&D teams and manufacturing partners across Asia.
Job Summary
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will independently own the mechanical development of connected consumer hardware from concept through mass production. This is a highly hands-on engineering role covering 3D CAD, prototype development, tolerance analysis, DFM, tooling, validation, and factory build support. You will work closely with Industrial Design, EE, RF, Optics, Acoustics, Quality, and manufacturing partners to integrate complex subsystems into compact, reliable, weather-resistant consumer products.
Responsibilities
- Own mechanical design from concept, prototype, EVT, DVT, PVT through mass production.
- Develop detailed 3D part and assembly models using Creo or equivalent CAD tools.
- Maintain robust assembly structures, part relationships, revisions, and engineering documentation.
- Build mockups and functional prototypes to validate mechanical concepts, fit, and function.
- Integrate camera modules, lenses, antennas, speakers, microphones, IR components, light guides, thermal solutions, and electronics into compact enclosures.
- Design mechanical structures for sealed and outdoor consumer devices.
- Perform tolerance stack-up analysis and apply GD&T to critical interfaces.
- Design components for injection molding, over-molding, LSR, doubleshot molding, die casting, CNC machining, sheet metal, die-cutting, and stamping.
- Work directly with tooling vendors and ODM / manufacturing partners on DFM, DFA, and DFX issues.
- Develop manufacturing-ready 2D drawings including dimensions, tolerances, materials, finishes, and cosmetic requirements.
- Prepare BOMs, RFQ packages, design documentation, and engineering risk assessments.
- Plan and execute engineering analysis and DOE to resolve EVT / DVT / PVT build issues.
- Troubleshoot sealing, air-tightness, gasket compression, thermal, structural, cosmetic, and assembly problems.
- Support tooling bring-up, first article builds, engineering builds, and production ramp at factories in Asia.
- Collaborate closely with Industrial Design, Optics, Acoustics, EE, RF, QE, and supplier-quality teams.
- Drive root cause analysis and implement robust corrective actions for mechanical issues.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or above in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of hands-on mechanical design experience in consumer electronics.
- Proven experience personally owning products from concept through mass production.
- Strong 3D CAD capability; Creo experience is highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of complex assembly design and mechanical architecture.
- Hands-on experience with injection molding, over-molding, silicone / LSR molding, double-shot molding, die casting, CNC, sheet metal, die-cut, and stamping processes.
- Strong knowledge of tolerance stack-up, GD&T, DFM, DFA, and DFX.
- Experience working directly with tooling suppliers and manufacturing partners.
- Experience producing manufacturing-ready 2D drawings and BOMs.
- Hands-on experience supporting EVT / DVT / PVT builds.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and root-cause-analysis capability.
- Professional working proficiency in both English and Mandarin Chinese.
- Willingness to travel to manufacturing sites across Asia when required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing cameras, video doorbells, smart-home devices, or connected consumer electronics.
- Experience with outdoor or sealed products.
- Familiarity with IP-rated enclosure design, gasket sealing, waterproofing, condensation control, and environmental protection.
- Experience with IK impact requirements or similar mechanical robustness standards.
- Experience with passive thermal design for sealed consumer devices.
- Familiarity with camera optics and mechanical alignment requirements.
- Experience integrating speakers, microphones, acoustic sealing, IR illumination, and light pipes.
- Experience designing around Wi-Fi / Bluetooth antennas and RF constraints.
- Hands-on DOE experience for mechanical and manufacturing issue resolution.
- Experience working with Asian ODM / OEM manufacturing ecosystems.
